Consciousness is beyond thought and beyond the "mind" in our brains. Consciousness is the inner knowning that flows through all things. Thoughts are part of Consciouness, just like a rock or a tree or the sunshine is an extension of Consciousness. Thought does not equal Consciousness, but without Consciousness, there would be no thought.
